Job Profile
The area supervisor is responsible for developing and leading profitable restaurants in partnership with a team of general managers while meeting critical QSC&V standards, and all BFR operational, talent, and financial targets. The area supervisor embodies the Bear Family Restaurant culture of impressing every guest and serving with significance through delivering exceptional guest service, addressing all employees concerns, and serving the community through volunteerism.
Essential Job Functions
1. Leads a patch of restaurants through partnering with general managers to meet or exceed organizational targets in the areas of quality, service, cleanliness, and value.
2. Ensures assigned restaurants meet or exceed all BFR financial targets, including sales, food cost, labor and all other controllable areas of the profit and loss statement.
3. Ensures BFR systems and routines are in place and functioning properly. Provides direction and coaching to general managers and others when needed.
4. Identifies barriers to operational execution and provides resources to overcome the barriers and grow the business.
5. Works as a coach with general managers to ensure communication is ongoing and objectives are met.
6. Identifies talented employees with growth potential and supports general managers and their teams in the training and development of those individuals. Verifies that development and preparation for successful growth is occurring. Champions people development in every restaurant, and makes hourly management hiring decisions. The supervisor partners with the director of operations in recommendations and promotions to general manager.
7. Performs and demonstrates a sense of continuous improvement in all aspects of the role, from self-development to guest satisfaction.
8. Effectively communicates across the organization in a clear, concise and meaningful manner. Demonstrates strength of communication skills in both written and verbal interaction. The area supervisor must be proficient in these skills.
9. Demonstrates solid time management, organizational and critical thinking skills. Effectively models these skills with restaurant management teams and office staff.
10. Role models people standards and policies set forth in both the BFR Hourly Employee Handbook and Salaried Employee Handbook.
11. Ensures compliance with all municipal, county, state, and federal laws and ordinances.
Other Duties and Tasks – Secondary to Essential Job Functions
• Manages various calendar repetitive duties such as those required during each restaurant visit, and on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
• Manages email in an effective, professional and timely manner.
• Conducts food safety and cash audits with each restaurant on a monthly basis.
• Allots time on a regular basis for personal development.
• Ensures “operations focused” visits and conducts Business Results Days at each restaurant.
• Conducts monthly patch meetings: more frequently as needed.
• Conducts annual performance reviews and partners with direct reports to establish performance objectives.
• Complies with all BFR policies regarding usage of Company credit cards, and timely invoice and Concur management.
Additional Knowledge or Skills Required
• Must be adept at the use of technology, including various forms of restaurant and guest-facing technology, and basic MS Office and email software and applications.
Standards of Conduct
• Area supervisors must exemplify honesty and ethical behavior, while modeling and demanding these same standards from their management teams and peers.
• Area supervisors must ethically represent BFR when communicating with guests, community members, vendors and suppliers.
• Area supervisors must support and model all BFR policies and expectations as listed in the BFR Salaried Employee Handbook.
