Local teachers serve students and families at McTeacher’s Night to raise money for St. Thomas More School in Elgin.
Elgin | St. Thomas More School students gave their teachers an A-plus on their fundraising efforts to support local education and classroom enhancements.
Twelve fun-loving teachers from St. Thomas More School volunteered on Thursday, February 21, at the Elgin McDonald’s located on Larkin Avenue, where they served students and their families in a fundraiser for their school.
Mrs. Sonja Keane, Principal of St. Thomas More School, was at the event the entire night talking with the families. Mrs. Hansen and Mrs. Goto wore the apple pie box during the night while Mrs. Bormann sold the pies the entire night and did a fabulous job raising funds for the school!
Principal Keane did an outstanding job working hard throughout the night and coordinating the entire event with McDonald’s. The proceeds from the sale of 240 pies went directly to benefit the students. Twenty percent of the proceeds from the McTeacher’s Night sales were donated directly to St. Thomas More, which plans to use that money to fund their teachers Wish Lists. Each teacher will receive supplementary materials to enhance their classrooms and their student’s education.
The St. Thomas More community has an amazing network of support for their school, McDonald’s was busy the entire evening! To make this night even more special Elgin Police Sergeant Ricky Demierre stopped by to say hello and take pictures with the St. Thomas More staff and students.
David Bear, Owner-Operator of the Elgin McDonald’s, and the Bear Family were delighted to participate in this worthy cause for education and the community.
“McTeacher’s Night is part of McDonald’s larger commitment to education and other important initiatives supporting families and the local community,” Bear said.
“We are proud to serve the families of the St. Thomas More community through the McTeacher’s Night event. In addition to helping provide financial support for our local schools, we help students feel connected to their school, their teachers and their sense of community.”
Bear donated a case of apple pies to the school for sale at the event. Inspired by the success of McTeacher’s Night, the Bear family has set their sights on partnering with other schools in the Elgin area.
“The teachers and families who supported this event are the fabric that strengthens our community,” Bear said.
