Mark Twain Elementary School of East Maine Township District 63 held their second annual McTeacher’s Night at the Niles McDonald’s on Milwaukee Ave. on Thursday, February 8.  A McTeacher’s Night is organized to help raise money for local schools by having the teachers work at McDonald’s and then giving a percentage of the night’s sales to the local school.

On Thursday the restaurant was taken over by teachers and staff excited to serve freshly prepared meals to students and their families to raise money for Mark Twain PTO. The students and families were excited to see their teachers and staff behind the counter and throughout the restaurant.

Fourteen teachers and staff members worked from the elementary school including Principal Lewis Roberts.  The McTeacher’s jobs included greeting guests, cleaning the lobby, working the front counter, serving drinks, clearing tables, selling pies and even dressing up in a pie costume–all duties which were executed with great enthusiasm.

Mark Twain teacher Shannon Lombardo and Principal Lewis Roberts had a blast dancing around the restaurant in a pie costume.  They were encouraging the families to make a donation and receive a delicious hot apple pie.  Special thank you goes to teachers and staff members Sheila Wheatey, Ashley Pantos and Connie Iglehart who assisted the “pie” in selling 74 pies!

One highlight of the evening is when the school received a tip in the tip jar Mark Twain teacher Jen Fletcher encouraged all the staff members to sing the McDonald’s jingle.  The tips kept pouring in all night long!

A special thank you goes to Lisa Ahmed who organized the event as well as everyone that worked and attended the event.  Mark Twain teachers worked hard and with excitement, while the families enjoyed a spectacular evening.  The Mark Twain PTO plans to use the money raised for school field trips and activities.
