Teachers from Community Consolidated School District 93 volunteered behind the counter on Thursday, November 1, at the Bloomingdale McDonald’s located on Stratford Dr., where they served students and their families in a fundraiser for Jay Stream Middle School.
Mrs. Julie Tobin, Principal, Jay Stream Middle School, worked behind the counter while teachers Mr. Chris Necka and Mr. Luke Pepper tended the apple pie box during the night.
Staci Gerleve, an eighth-grade teacher, did an outstanding job organizing the event and alongside Taylor Badal, and Amy Gray, Assistant Principal also help with the selling of pies to customers throughout the night.  The proceeds from the sale of 102 pies went directly to benefit the students.  Twenty percent of the proceeds from the McTeacher’s Night sales were donated directly to Jay Stream Middle School, which plans to use the money to help pay for the eighth-grade end of year boat outing.
David Bear, Owner- Operator of the Bloomingdale McDonald’s, and the Bear Family Restaurants were delighted to participate in the worthy cause for education and the community.
“McTeacher’s Night is part of McDonald’s larger commitment to education and other important initiatives supporting families and the local community,” Bear said.
“We are proud to serve the families of the Jay Stream community and through the McTeacher’s Night event.  In addition to helping provide financial support for our local schools, we help students feel connected to their school, their teachers and their sense of community.”
Bear donated a case of apple pies to the school for sale at the event.
“Gerleve and everyone who rolled up their sleeves in support of this event”is the fabric that strengthens our community,” Bear said.
